FOR JUNE 23, 2008
Hello everyone, we hope you are well. Over 150 youth and young adults attended the Source Eucharistic Adoration event this past Saturday night at Good Shepherd Church in White Rock. It was a beautiful night of worship, hilited by the talk by Brother Isaiah and the beautiful display of the Vatican International Exhibition of the Eucharistic Miracles of the World.

Since our last YMO News, both Faye and Clay celebrated birthdays, bringing their combined age to 70 years. We'll let you figure out who is what age...but we'll give you one hint: they are not the same age!

We are thrilled to announce the winners of our YMO Scholarships! Find out who they are below!

We're leaving our Crazy Caption Contest picture up for a couple of more weeks...check it out here. It features OCP recording artist Angus McDonell hamming it up with George Francis of our Searching in the Spirit Leadership Team.

Summer is officially here...and that means great youth training opportunities going by the names of YouthLeader and Searching in the Spirit. So sit back and get ready for more exciting youth ministry news in the latest edition of the YMO News:

YOUTHLEADER

Our Christian Leadership training event will be from August 4 - 8, 2008 at Summit Pacific College in Abbotsford, BC.  This is a top-notch leadership training event!  Many participants return to take leadership roles in their parishes, schools, and communities.  YouthLeader is an ideal training ground for leaders in parishes with newer youth ministries.

One very important change to note this year:  YouthLeader is now open to teens 14 or older (entering at least grade 10 in September 2008).

Also, we're excited to announce that the Trainers for YouthLeader will be Stan Cordero, Director of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of Santa Rosa, California (returning for the 4th straight year) and our very own YMO Director, Clayton Imoo. The combination promises to be insightful, entertaining, and full of good hair days.

SEARCHING IN THE SPIRIT

Our post-confirmation training event will be from August 18 - 22, 2008 at Camp Jubilee at the base of Mt. Seymour. Open to youth ages 12-13 who will have been confirmed by this summer, Searching in the Spirit inspires the newly confirmed to continue on in their faith journey.

Registrations are coming in fast and furious so you'll want to get all of the info in right away.

YMO SCHOLARSHIPS: AND THE WINNERS ARE...

Congratulations to Celina Fader and Luc Gloanec for receiving the YMO Scholarships for 2008. Both individuals will receive $500 to be applied to post-secondary schooling. We were blessed to have twenty applicants for the scholarships for students exemplifying outstanding leadership in their parishes, schools, communities and homes.

Celina is graduating from Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary School in Port Coquitlam and is a parishioner at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Port Coquitlam. She is heavily involved at school as part of the REACH squad, LINK Crew, and Reverence for Life Club. As well, Celina is busy at her parish serving as the Chairperson of the Squirette Advisory Board and in the Youth Mass choir. Celina is serving on the 2008 Searching in the Spirit Leadership Team and is looking forward to sharing her faith with youth this summer. Upon learning she had been awarded the scholarship, Celina "did a little dance while on the phone." Celina will be studying Anthropology at UBC in the Fall.

Luc is graduating from St. John Brebeuf Regional Secondary School in Abbotsford and is a parishioner at St. Joseph's Parish in Langley. Luc is busy at school serving as the school President, Co-President of the Reverence for Life Club, and member of many musical productions and sports teams. Luc is just as busy at the parish teaching PREP and serving as youth ministry leader. Luc has also served on many different Archdiocesan youth ministry teams, including at Searching in the Spirit and Spirit Day. Luc cites Jesus, his parents, the Catholic Church, Socrates, his teachers, and Bob Dylan as his biggest influences. Luc will be attending Trinity Western University in the fall, studying Modern Languages and Theology.

We'd like to thank and congratulate all of the applicants...you made the Selection Committee's decisions very tough!

YMO OUTLINE & CALENDAR

Packed with info, pics, important dates, and other exciting news, it serves as the perfect planning tool for next year!

Thanks to Dave Lee-Son of St. Paul's Parish in Richmond for designing the Outline and Calendar, and to Derek Juneson of Immaculate Conception Parish in Delta, Patrick Guevara of St. Paul's Parish, and the BC Catholic for supplying the majority of the pictures. As always, it looks amazing!
